Around 55 percent people above the age of 60 years suffer from a chronic disease, according to the wave, one of the Longitudinal Ageing Study in India (LASI) released on Wednesday. According to the report, around 40 percent have some form of disability and 20 percent suffer from mental health issues. Also, 27 percent of this population group, which translates to roughly 35 million people, have multi-morbidities. New Delhi [India], January 6 (ANI): Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr Harsh Vardhan on Wednesday released the report on Longitudinal Ageing Study of India (LASI) Wave-1.
According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, LASI is a full-scale national survey of scientific investigation of the health, economic, and social determinants and consequences of population ageing in India. The National Programme for Health Care of Elderly, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has undertaken the LSAI through International Institute for Population Sciences, (IIPS), Mumbai in collaboration with Harvard School of Public Health, University of Southern California, USA, Dte. GHS, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and National Institute on Ageing.

Kottayam: It has come to light that Kerala reports the lowest number of domestic violence incidents. This was found in a report prepared by International Institute for Population Science in 2019-20 for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The information regarding the status of woman aged between 18 and 49 years was included in the report.
The survey was conducted prior to this in 2015-16. Then the rate of domestic violence in Kerala was 14.9 percent. This has reduced to mere 9.9 percent in the survey held in 2019-20. There are very few states that has less than 10 percent of domestic violence rate. The rate in other states are like this: Karnataka – 44, Bihar – 40, West Bengal – 27, Andhra Pradesh – 30, Maharashtra – 25 and Gujarat – 14.
