Dada Saheb Phalke Should Be Awarded Bharat Ratna For His Contribution To The Industry: Grandson

Filmmaker Dada Saheb Phalke, regarded as the father of Indian cinema, should be conferred the title of Bharat Ratna for his contribution to the film industry, his grandson Chandrashekhar Pusalkar has said. Phalke s 1913 silent film Raja Harishchandra is considered the first full-length Indian feature film. In his career of nearly two decades, Phalke helmed 95 feature-length films such as Mohini Bhasmasur, Satyavan Savitri and Kaliya Mardan.
During a session at the 51st International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Pusalkar said it would be fitting if the cinema legend received the country s highest civilian award. He also hoped that the film industry considers making a biopic on his illustrious career. It is now confirmed that Nigerian feature film Eyimofe (This Is My Desire) will screen at this year’s Black Movie International Film Festival in Geneva. This is coming after the earlier selection of the film in the World Panorama section of the 51st edition of India’s biggest festival, The International Film Festival of India (IFFI) for 2021.
Billed to open on January 22 and run through January 31, 2021, a jury of international cinema critics choose their favorite feature length film amongst a selection of the most innovative films screened during the festival for the Critic’s Award. The awarded film wins a prize of 5,000 Swiss francs given by the Town of Geneva.

The film, directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery, is an Indian Malayalam-language action film with a screenplay by S. Hareesh and R. Jayakumar, based on the short story Maoist by Hareesh. The film stars Antony Varghese, Chemban Vinod Jose, Sabumon Abdusamad and Santhy Balachandran. JALLIKATTU is produced by O Thomas Panicker, and executive produced by Naushad Salahudin and Guneet Monga (THE LUNCHBOX) alongside XYZ Films.
