After weeks of negotiations and late-night votes, the U.S. House gave final approval to a sweeping $1.9 trillion relief package Wednesday, sending it to President Joe Biden s desk for his signature, which is expected by the end of the week.
Unlike past relief efforts, the bill sharply divided the state s congressional delegation. All Republican members voted against the measure over concerns about the scale of the spending, particularly the size of aid given to state and local governments.
