ODJFS issues $300 federal pandemic unemployment payments
Staff Report
COLUMBUS The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) has begun issuing supplemental weekly $300 Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) payments to eligible unemployment claimants following a new system programming update.
According to a news release from ODJFS, the payments were made possible by the federal Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021, which was signed on December 27, 2020.
“Each claim is important to us. We understand the urgency of providing Ohioans with the resources they need to support their families,” said ODJF Director Kimberly Henderson. “We worked quickly to align our system with the new requirements, and I am pleased that we can now provide much-needed relief to eligible claimants.”

Update, 1/28/21:
On Jan. 28, the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment announced that it would begin paying extended PEUC and PUA benefits to some people on the week of Feb. 1. The $300-a-week FPUC boost was also scheduled to start that week.

Colorado is another step closer to providing the extended federal benefits that many have been waiting on as the state has transitioned to a new computer system for unemployment benefits. Officials’ earlier projections were late January or early February and now they hope to start contacting Coloradans by Jan. 29 at the earliest to get the ball rolling.
Update:
On Saturday the Department of Labor and Industry announced that extended unemployment benefits for self-employed Pennsylvanians would resumed the week of January 24. These are payments for PUA claimants who ve exhausted benefits.
Unemployment benefits resumed for more than 400,000 Pennsylvania’s self-employed workers Friday, nearly one month after they stopped when the first COVID-19 pandemic stimulus act expired.
But roughly 100,000 more of these workers who’ve exhausted unemployment benefits will need to wait a little longer for benefit extensions.
Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) program claimants could begin filing for benefits Friday under the new federal CARES Act extension, said Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry Acting Secretary Jennifer Berrier said in a news release.

HENRICO Co., Va. (WWBT) - The Virginia Employment Commission (VEC) says unemployment benefits are being paid out to Virginians who did not exhaust their weeks in 2020 through the CARES Act benefit programs, but there is still delay for other Virginians hoping to file future claims.
The two main federal programs through the 2020 CARES Act are the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) and Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC).
The new information from the VEC announced Wednesday stated those benefit systems are up and running for Virginians who still have weeks leftover.
