A Moderna arrangement A SHOT IN THE ARM
US-based pharmaceutical giant Moderna has revealed overnight that it has struck an agreement with the Morrison government to supply 25 million doses of their COVID-19 vaccine. This includes 10 million doses of its two-dose vaccine this year, along with “15 million doses of Moderna’s updated variant booster vaccine candidate to be delivered in 2022”. There are also discussions about manufacturing the drug onshore.
The Sydney Morning Herald explains Moderna’s announcement does not explain when the 10 million doses will arrive, only that the company will submit an application for regulatory approval to the Therapeutic Goods Administration “shortly”.
KT edit: An overhaul of WHO is need of the hour Filed on May 12, 2021
It was in mid-January last year, when images of a strict lockdown in China’s Hubei province, particularly Wuhan, started flooding the Internet and news.
It’s almost unthinkable, but what if we could have turned the tide on the pandemic? Maybe, we could have saved a million or two lives from the highly infectious viral disease. Maybe, we could have saved millions more from being pushed deeper into the poverty pit. Just maybe, our children could have continued with regular school and play time in the company of their loved ones. Families would not have been separated and the departed would have been accorded dignified goodbyes.

The Covid-19 pandemic was preventable, an independent review panel has said.
The panel, set up by the World Health Organization, said the combined response of the WHO and global governments was a toxic cocktail .
The WHO should have declared a global emergency earlier than it did, its report said, adding that without urgent change the world was vulnerable to another major disease outbreak.
More than 3.3 million people around the world have now died of Covid.
While the US and Europe are beginning to ease restrictions and resume some aspects of pre-pandemic life, the virus is still devastating parts of Asia.

The catastrophic scale of the coronavirus pandemic could have been prevented, an independent global panel concluded on Wednesday.
A combination of dithering and poor coordination provided a toxic cocktail which hastened the spread of the virus that has cost well over three million lives, the independent global panel said.
The Independent Panel for Pandemic Preparedness and Response (IPPPR) explained that a series of bad decisions resulted in the fact that Covid-19 went on to kill at least 3.3 million people so far and devastate the global economy, reported AFP
