Unemployment in NY: Some federal benefits are expiring soon What to know

New York State Team After nearly 18 months of expanded benefits due to COVID-19, New Yorkers may soon see a hit to their unemployment checks as most federal benefits programs expire in the coming weeks and months.  After COVID-19 hit New York in March 2020, normal unemployment payouts more than doubled in size as the federal government rapidly approved pandemic-related relief for U.S. workers being laid off by the millions.  Those federal programs built on the state’s baseline unemployment insurance allotment. They offered supplemental benefits in the form of extra cash or extended benefit periods, and made a way for self-employed individuals or freelance workers to get unemployment benefits as well.

Pandemic Unemployment Benefits to Expire in Ky on Sept 6

Thu, 07/29/2021 - 18:36 RCN Newsdesk The additional unemployment benefits paid during the COVID-19 pandemic will end in Kentucky on September 6. “With a surging economy and job opportunities available throughout the commonwealth, there isn’t a valid reason why any Kentuckian who wants a job shouldn’t be able to find one,” Gov. Andy Beshear said. Federal pandemic unemployment insurance benefit programs expire nationwide on Sept. 6. Unemployment insurance claimants in Kentucky will no longer be able to claim benefits from the following programs after that date: Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC), which provides an additional $300 weekly payment to recipients of unemployment compensation.
