Arguably the first step in half a century to eliminate nuclear weapons, the Treaty for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) makes it internationally illegal to “develop, test, produce, manufacture, otherwise acquire, possess, or stockpile nuclear weapons or other nuclear explosive devices.”

On Nov. 7, Pennsylvania s vote had just been called for Joe Biden. Beeping horns and jubilant motorists marked the celebration. On a day with unseasonably warm weather, it was a good morning for a picket at the PNC Bank branch on East Carson Street on Pittsburgh s South Side.
The picketers rolled out their banner Stop Banking the Bomb and unpacked their signs. The pandemic had not yet reached epic proportions, and suburbanites coming into the city for a lazy morning brunch gave the picketers a fresh audience.

Rome The Vatican s foreign minister reaffirmed the Catholic Church s recent shift away from accepting the Cold War-era global system of nuclear deterrence Dec. 16, telling a webinar featuring arms control activists that nuclear weapons only give a false sense of security. International peace and security cannot be founded on the threat of mutual destruction or total annihilation, or maintaining a balance of power, Archbishop Paul Gallagher told the webinar, which was co-hosted by the Vatican and several institutes at Georgetown University and the University of Notre Dame.
