A student from Belmopan wins a writing prize | The Guardian Newspaper

Kaylee Flowers, a fourth form student from Our Lady of Guadalupe High School (OLOGH) in Belmopan has shown great promise in writing. Kaylee Flowers received her certificate and $200.00 cash prize on Wednesday from the Belmopan Cancer Society after winning an essay competition. In recognizing the event OLOGH has released the statement as follows: One important mode of communication, and for many, the most difficult is writing. Like many crafts, it requires time, effort, and dedication. May our future leaders hone their communication skills. With her prize in hand, Kaylee Flowers has told the media that she wrote the essay to spread knowledge on the prevention and treatment of cancer. Flowers reported that anyone can get cancer and it can be deadly as well.

Don t ignore cancer in times of Covid-19

The Covid-19 pandemic has affected the world for slightly over a year to date. The situation in Malaysia does not appear to be abating with 238,721 cases and 857 deaths on Feb 6, compared to 115,078 cases and 474 deaths on Jan 1. The healthcare system is straining to cope with this unprecedented challenge. There are global reports that cancer care, like other non-Covid-19 conditions, is being deprioritised, delayed, disrupted, and even discontinued by some health systems. These decisions will impact on cancer death and burden health systems for years to come with delays in cancer screening resulting in delayed diagnosis and worse outcomes for the affected patients.

More than 300 women in UAE donate their hair to cancer patients

Dubai: More than 300 women expatriates in the UAE have donated 60kg of hair in just two months to Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP) a non-profit organisation founded in 1999. FOCP is a member of a group comprising different international and regional organisations, including the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) based in Geneva Switzerland, The American Cancer Society, The NCD Alliance and Kuwait-based Gulf Federation for Cancer Control. FOCP is also an affiliate of local health bodies such as UAE Ministry of Health, Abu Dhabi Health Authority, Sharjah Health Authority and Dubai Health Authority. Expats of various nationalities contributed their healthy mane as part of an initiative launched by Dabur Amla in October 2020. The initiative encouraged women to donate their hair in support of cancer patients through FOCP. The campaign titled ‘Strong Hair Stronger You’ has been inspiring women across the UAE to donate their hair.
