Matawalle signs N142.7bn Zamfara 2021 budget into law

Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara has signed the state’s 2021 budget of more than N142.7 billion into law, pledging to ensure accountability, and prove to the world that his administration was transparent.
Matawalle assented to the bill on Friday in Gusau.
According to him, the budget, which is IPSAS (International Public Sector Accounting Standards) compliant, has captured all citizens’ interests, including those at the grassroots.
He therefore, assured people of the state of timely release of the funds to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), to enable them carry out various projects for the development of the state.

Alhaji Shehu Anka, Clerk of the State House of Assembly, said this while speaking with newsmen in Gusau on Wednesday.
Anka said that money would be used for training and retraining of legislative staff as well as other legislative activities.
“In 2021, we plan to engage various stakeholders for the development of the legislative arm of government in the state.
“The House has started enacting laws to legalise operations of Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the state, most of whom have been operating without laws,” Anka said.

The Vice President said this on Friday when he presided over the closing of Public Sector Conference, organized by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (ICAM) at Linde Motel in Dowa district.
Chilima said he is well informed that government is reporting its expenditure following the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS), saying Malawians can only be assured of continued public scrutiny of financial position of the government if only full financial statements are published on a regular basis.
