The landmark Turkey-UK free trade agreement set to be signed on Tuesday will usher a new era in bilateral economic and trade ties starting Jan. 1, Turkey’s trade minister said on Monday.
“This new era in our relations will be mutually beneficial for both Turkey and the UK,” Ruhsar Pekcan tweeted.
The pact will form a new basis and framework for bilateral relations, she said.
The free trade agreement, “which aims at furthering our trade volume, represents a critical milestone on the way to deepen our relations on a win-win basis,” Pekcan said.
She added that the pact, negotiations for which started in 2017, represents the second-most important trade deal for Turkey following the 1995 Customs Union with the EU.

THE 27 EU member states have given the green light for the post-Brexit trade deal to come into effect on 1 January, a spokesman has said.
Ambassadors from EU capitals met in Brussels to nod through the accord, using a procedure which will take effect at 2pm tomorrow.
This will provisionally allow tariff-free trade with Britain to continue after it leaves the EU single market at the New Year.
Sebastian Fischer, spokesman for the German presidency of the EU, said: “EU Ambassadors have unanimously approved the provisional application of the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement.”

EU ambassadors have today approved the Brexit trade deal with the UK, ahead of the MPs vote.
The deal, hammered out on Christmas Eve ahead of implementation on January 1, has been given another green light with the unanimous approval.

It comes as MPs in Britain are preparing to vote on the deal in a special sitting of Parliament on Wednesday.
Britons travelling to the European Union have been warned they face disruption and potential charges after the Brexit transition period ends on Thursday - as EU ambassadors said yes to the deal.
Travellers from the UK have previously been able to rely on free healthcare with their European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), and to escape roaming charges thanks to a ban on the fees throughout the bloc.
But the trade deal brokered between the European Union and the UK does not allow for Britons to keep either of these advantages.

LONDON, Dec 28 Britain and Turkey are set to sign a free trade deal tomorrow, the UK trade ministry said yesterday, the first since Prime Minister Boris Johnson secured a new trade agreement with the European Union.
The two nations will sign a deal that replicates the existing trading terms between Ankara and London, but British trade minister Liz Truss said that she was hopeful a bespoke deal between the countries could be struck soon.
