The International Trade Promotion Department is set on hosting more virtual trade fairs and online business activities in order to boost the country s exports in the second half of the year.
According to Somdet Susomboon, the department s director-general, the agency is preparing a schedule of more than 30 virtual trade fairs and online business activities this year mainly in the second half to boost exports by more than 4%. Thailand s exports to the US look more promising thanks to the friendlier trade policies of new US President Joe Biden.
Somdet Susomboon, director-general of the International Trade Promotion Department, said the trade policies of the new US president are expected to boost trade not only between the US and Thailand, but also the US and other Asian countries. With friendlier trade policies, we expect not only trade cooperation, but also investments between US and Thai businesses both in Thailand and in the US, he said.

Commerce Minister Jurin Laksanawisit has threatened to move Thai commercial counsellors in foreign countries back to Thailand if they fail to function as salespeople to boost shipments and tackle hurdles for exports.
Mr Jurin is preparing working policies for all directors in the Office of Thai Trade Centers and commercial counsellors in 58 offices around the world, aiming to promote Thai exports despite the pandemic. As the pandemic is improving and vaccines are being produced, commercial counsellors need to adjust their export plans to expedite shipments, he said.
