The petition, which collected more than 1,000 signatures Monday, is being circulated at a time when other Korean American groups are raising awareness about the issue.
Online activists are calling for the boycott of Mitsubishi products less than a month after a Harvard law professor came under criticism for his article on comfort women.
Korean Americans affiliated with community groups in California said in the statement on Change.org that they are calling for a comprehensive boycott of products from the Japanese company to protest J. Mark Ramseyer, South Korean news service News 1 reported Monday.
The Undergraduate Council voted to endorse a pair of statements during its Sunday night meeting â one supporting a petition to grant tenure to Professor of the Practice of Public Philosophy Cornel R. West â74, and another to condemn statements made by Harvard Law professor J. Mark Ramseyer.
The first piece of legislation demands the University âreopen pathways for Professor Westâs tenure and further commit to advancing racial justice in substantive ways.â
West recently threatened to leave Harvard for the second time after he said the University dismissed his request to be considered for tenure. He held Harvardâs highest faculty rank, University Professor, before leaving Harvard in 2002 following a high-profile spat with then-University president Lawrence H. âLarryâ Summers. West returned as a Professor of the Practice in 2017, a position that lacks tenure.
Apologize to victims
Ramseyer should also withdraw paper on sex slaves
Professor John Mark Ramseyer of Harvard Law School acknowledged recently his mistake of describing Japan s wartime sex slaves as voluntary prostitutes. I don t have any Korean contracts, Ramseyer was quoted as saying by fellow Harvard Law School professor Jeannie Suk Gersen. Disclosing an email she received from Ramseyer, the ethnic Korean professor went on to quote him as saying, I haven t been able to find it. Certainly you re not going to find it.
Earlier, Ramseyer triggered wrath here by defining the forced sex slavery as contractual between brothel operators and would-be prostitutes in his paper titled Contracting for Sex in the Pacific War published by the journal, International Review of Law and Economics.
