Four more golds for Dutch speed skaters at second World Cup in Heerenveen Sunday, 31 January 2021 Dutch skaters completed another golden weekend on the home ice of Heerenveen in the second round of the International Skating Union (ISU) Speed Skating World Cup. On the same ice in the Thialf Arena  last week Dutch speed skaters won nine of the 12 gold medals on offer over the final two days of competition - but this time they settled for eight golds. Femke Kok, winner of two golds in the last World Cup round on this ice, matched that feat as she won her second 500 metres race, clocking 37.333sec to finish ahead of three Russian rivals - Angelina Golikova, just 0.03sec adrift, Daria Kachanova, at 0.30, and Olga Fatkulina, at 0.34.

Saturday, 30 January 2021 This year s World Synchronized Skating Championships, due to have taken place from April 9 to 10 in Zagreb, have been cancelled because of what the International Skating Union (ISU) describes as the ongoing pandemic and detrimental consequences. The Arena Zagreb is currently being used to treat patients suffering with COVID-19 as cases continue to rise in Croatia. Following an online ISU Council meeting, the world governing body has also announced new dates for cancelled Beijing 2022 test events to be held in Olympic venues in the Chinese capital. The International Speed Skating competition is scheduled for October 8 to 10, the Asian Open Figure Skating Trophy for October 13 to 17 and an ISU World Cup Short Track for October 21 to 24.

The school paused its whole athletic department last weekend after several positive tests for a new COVID-19 variant that transmits at a higher rate. The school said then that it was pausing athletic activities “until further notice and up to 14 days.” In its latest testing update Friday, the school said there were 3,215 student-athletes, coaches and staff tested from Jan. 23-29.
