A MAN launched a violent attack against two brothers in Southampton city centre knocking one of them unconscious. Jack Burgess attacked two brothers who had been enjoying a night out drinking in the city. The 28-year-old punched one of the men with a right hook sending him to the floor in Above Bar Street, a court heard. He then punched the other man in the mouth causing him to fall backwards on September 29, 2019. Prosecution barrister, Aleks Lloyd told that the impact left the man with a large crack in one of his front teeth which required multiple medical appointments.

Isolating pensioner dies from Covid weeks after home was burgled

1/1 AN ISOLATING 90-year-old pensioner died from Covid-19 less than a month after a prolific criminal burgled his home, a court has heard. Stuart Hitchiner smashed through the kitchen window of a home in Landseer Road, Southampton during the early hours of December 17 last year. Once inside, the 47-year-old painter and decorator stole an iPad, mobile phone, passport, Christmas cards and alcohol, a court heard. Prosecution barrister, Oliver Wellings told how Hitchiner “conducted a messy search” of the man’s property throwing items onto the living room floor. When the “vulnerable” occupant needed to use the toilet he saw that lights were on downstairs and that a window had been smashed. He was said to have been extremely frightened that the intruder would come up the stairs and even “thought of grabbing his walking stick to defend himself”.

Woman jailed for four years for distraction burglary and robbery

A WOMAN has been jailed for four years for distraction burglary and robbery in Chandler s Ford. Ruby June Ventham, of Cox Row, Chandler’s Ford, pleaded guilty to one count of robbery at Southampton Crown Court yesterday (February 1). Southampton Crown Court heard on the morning of Saturday 28 November 2020 the 27-year-old targeted a property in Chandler s Ford. Ventham knocked on the door of the victim requesting change for a £20 note and eventually pushed her way into the address. While she was inside, she snatched a bag from the lounge and fought with the victim. She left the address after stealing the bag.
