Prosecution barrister, Tim Moores, read out a victim impact statement which said how the girl s life had been ruined and how the event will be with her forever. Extracts from the statement said: During the time he had locked me in the back of the car I was terrified he was going to kill me. I have to live the rest of my life knowing what he did to me. I will never escape it. She has suffered sleepless nights and has cried herself to sleep, the court heard. Defending, Len Furlong, argued Moore has no relevant previous convictions. He added that the fact the case had taken since 2018 to be dealt with was also a mitigating factor.

Dennis Brandis told his wife he was going to cut her throat, a court heard. The 34-year-old punched her “three times to the stomach” when she asked him to turn down loud music at their home in Warren Avenue, Southampton. He shouted that he “paid for everything” and claimed that she owed him money during the attack on October 18. Brandis punched her to the stomach again before pulling her hair “to such an extent that strands came out”. Prosecution barrister, Ed Warren, told how the woman’s 19-year-old daughter then fled the apartment to call the police. However, Brandis, a forklift driver punched the girl in the stomach so she “could not breathe and causing her to fall to the floor”.

The Captain, who is a Quartermaster at 19 Tank Transport Squadron with the Royal Logistic Corps, disarmed and pinned the man to the ground before police arrived, also discovering that the firearm was in fact a replica.
The assailant, Scott Haynours, 48, was arrested and charged with possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. At Southampton Crown Court in June last year, he was sentenced to 12 months in prison. After the incident, the crowd dispersed shaken but unharmed.
