1/1 SAFETY measures were put in place after a crash which left an 18-year-old girl dead, a council boss says. Abbie O’Rourke died of multiple injuries following a tragic crash in School Lane, Hamble. Her friend, Katy Butler, had been driving a Toyota Aygo when she lost control and hit a tree. Following the fatal incident on December 5, 2019, a petition was launched to drop the speed limit on the “dangerous” road to just 30mph. Butler of Norbury Gardens, Hamble, was charged with a single count of causing death by careless/inconsiderate driving. And after pleading guilty to the offence, she was given an 18-month community order and a 12-month driving ban.

Pleaded guilty to assault by beating. Discharged conditionally for two years. Ordered to pay £22 victim surcharge and £310 court costs. IAN DAVID MASTERS, 33, of Portswood Road, Southampton. Admitted breaching a post-sentence supervision requirement. Fined£40 and ordered to pay £60 court costs. JACOB NATHAN LESLEY WILLOUGHBY, 21, of Albert Road, Southampton. Admitted breaching post-sentence supervision requirements on three separate occasions. Made subject to an electronically monitored curfew for 30 days between 7pm and 7am each day.

A MAN left his former partner with a fractured elbow after launching his mobile phone at her. Reece Middleton lunged through a car window grabbing his victim by the throat, a court heard. Prosecution barrister, Nathalie Carter, told how the 27-year-old choked the victim after he “lost his temper”. She finally escaped his grip when her friend drove the car away. Ms Carter said that the woman had gone to a Southampton address and asked Middleton, of Obelisk Road, Southampton to return her flat keys. But he became abusive. Ms Carter added: “He grabbed her by the throat and tried to pull her through the window.”
