Two charged in connection with Southampton Guildhall Square knife fight

James Stevenson-Mackie, aged 18, of James Weld Close, Southampton has been charged with possession of a bladed article in a public place and affray. A 17-year-old boy from Southampton who cannot be named for legal reasons has also been charged with possession of a bladed article in a public place and affray. It comes after police were alerted to reports of around three people fighting in Guildhall Square armed with knives. However, no one was injured following the confrontation at around 4.30pm on Thursday, April 29.

Kirk Matthews has been charged with possessing cannabis with the intent to supply it and having a handgun without a licence. It comes after a drugs raid on his room at Wessex House guest house in Winchester Road last Tuesday (April 27). He has further been charged with handling stolen property, namely cash and a watch. The 31-year-old, whose listed address is the guest house, appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court last Thursday (April 29), where his case was sent to Winchester Crown Court.

New leader takes the helm at New Forest District Council

A NEW leader has been elected to the helm at New Forest District Council. Councillor Edward Heron, who is the conservative member for the Downland and Forest, has previously served as the deputy leader of the council. He said: I am incredible honour my colleagues have chosen me. It is a great responsibility as we are still in very difficult times particularly our business and communities. We have still got the vaccinations running and we are not out of the woods yet of the pandemic. Cllr Heron says that going forward a key focus will be helping with the national response to the pandemic and helping businesses recover.
