Hampshire MPs react to post-Brexit deal

The deal was secured on Christmas Eve, a week before current trading arrangements expire. A UK source said the deal delivered “everything that the British public was promised during the 2016 referendum”. MP for Romsey and Southampton North, Caroline Nokes, said that the deal was good news . She told the Daily Echo: I have consistently said we needed to leave with a deal and the PM has now secured that.  It is good news for local businesses and people. I will certainly be voting for it when Parliament is recalled next week. Caroline Dinenage, MP for Gosport, said that she was relieved to hear of the deal.

A ROMSEY MP has slammed the Home Office s proposed centre for asylum seekers in Hampshire next to the A303 after a pedestrian was killed in an accident on the road. A 53-year-old man was found between the on and slip on the A303, near Picket Twenty, after police were called at 2.27am on Tuesday. Officers investigating the case believe that a large goods vehicle was in collision with the man, and did not stop. As reported, Romsey and Southampton North MP, Caroline Nokes, started a joint petition against the plans for a temporary facility for up to 500 people on Ministry of Defence land at Barton Stacey, which has already attracted more than 3,000 signatures.

Southampton MP issues advice after Xmas restriction changes

A Southampton MP has issued advice on travelling within the country over the festive period after Boris Johnson announces major guidance changes. Conservative MP for Southampton Itchen, Royston Smith said he believed Southampton will remain in tier 2. He said: “Southampton currently isn’t in the ‘South East’ in terms of tier 3 regulations so we should not go into Tier 4. “That’s my understanding, there may need to be some refinement to that. “My understanding is Southampton restrictions will allow household mixing (up to three households) on just one day - Christmas Day.” The is a major tightening of previous relaxations planned which would have allowed up to three households to mix between 23 – 27 December.
