  BARRIE, ONT. The race is on for the Simcoe Muskoka health unit to vaccinate as many eligible residents in the region as possible as daily case counts of COVID-19 climb to triple digits two days in a row. The health unit reports 100 lab-confirmed tests Friday, plus one more death to add to the more than 200 lives lost to the virus in Simcoe Muskoka. Unfortunately, we re now hitting about 100 cases a day. We ve never seen that before, said Dr. Colin Lee, associate medical officer of health with Simcoe Muskoka public unit. There are currently 771 active infections, including 38 hospitalizations. Hospitals across the area are struggling with an influx of patients, with many postponing and prioritizing surgeries.

With a third wave and a third lockdown, support for the local hospital is needed now more than ever through the Nature’s Emporium Run for Southlake Virtual Challenge. The virtual Run for Southlake kicks off this Monday, April 12, running for four weeks. This year’s challenge is divided into sections for each of the four weeks. The first week, Eat Well with Southlake, focuses on nutrition with professionals from Nature’s Emporium providing programming on “foods that fuel you” while participants will be encouraged to set their own nutritional goal for the week.

Local production partner for Myant The first production run of 15,000 Skiin Pods has commenced at URtech’s plant. 12th March 2021 Myant, the pioneer of textile computing, has partnered with URtech Manufacturing a Toronto-based provider of electronics manufacturing services, to produce the first commercial scale run of electronic components for Skiin, Myant’s textile-based wearable solutions. By partnering with another Toronto-based company, Myant is creating a local ecosystem to accelerate innovation and the first production run of 15,000 Skiin Pods has commenced at URtech’s plant. Commercial scale applications of textile computing, such as the clothes produced for Skiin, are made possible only through deep collaboration between designers, engineers, textile specialists, electronics manufacturers, health practitioners, and other experts.
