The company says that when fraudulent insurance claims are paid, honest insurance customers pay the price in higher premiums. SGI’s Special Investigation Unit looked over 17 hundred claims last year and, though not all were fraudulent, the ones that were, and were tracked down, saved the Crown Corporation $6 million. In one of the top five, entitled, “Back and Forth,” a vehicle crashed into a well-marked construction zone hole. The woman who took the blame for driving later recanted and said it was another person. Police investigated and determined she was telling the truth. The real driver faced a criminal charge and SGI recovered $76 hundred dollars paid out in the claim.
