Saskatchewan’s government is betting that a growing supply of COVID-19 vaccines will blunt the latest wave of infections, even as the province’s top doctor warns outbreaks in essential workplaces continue to drive the spread of the virus.
Tuesday’s government news conference brought no new restrictions for those workplaces, even as chief medical health officer Dr. Saqib Shahab warned that existing protocols in many workplaces are inadequate to prevent more transmissible variants from spreading.

Residents of Saskatoon and Regina are flocking to social media after a digital scramble to book a COVID-19 vaccine appointment.
Hours after the province expanded eligibility to allow everyone 44 and older, the Saskatchewan Health Authority said appointments in the province’s two largest cities were completely booked.

Residents successful and otherwise said the online reservation system was a digital dash where users would click on recommended appointments only for them to be instantly booked by someone else.
