Saginaw Valley State University hires new dean for business college

SAGINAW, MI - Jayati Ghosh will become the next dean of Saginaw Valley State University’s Scott L. Carmona College of Business, according to a news release.
Ghosh most recently served as the dean of Widener University’s School of Business Administration, a private university in Chester, Pennsylvania. She has more than 25 years of higher education experience at institutions both public and private, according to the release. She’ll officially join the university Monday, June 28.
Ghosh holds a doctorate from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, as well as master’s degrees from Wilfrid Laurier University in Ontario and the University of Calcutta in India.

FARMS Jon Dean, deputy superintendent for the Grosse Pointe Public School System, was appointed superintendent at a special board meeting held May 12 at Brownell Middle School in Grosse Pointe Farms.
The school board voted 4-3 to name Dean superintendent.
Board President Joseph Herd, Vice President Margaret Weertz, Secretary Christopher Lee and Treasurer Colleen Worden voted in favor of appointing Dean.
Trustees Lisa Papas, David Brumbaugh and Ahmed Ismail voted against the measure. Papas and Brumbaugh were in favor of selecting the second finalist, Stephen Bigelow, current Bay City Public Schools superintendent, but the vote on that motion failed 5-2.

FLINT, MI Nearly $95 million will be distributed to colleges and universities in Michigan’s 5th Congressional District under the federal government’s last COVID-19 spending bill.
A total of $94,555,085 will be distributed in emergency funds to area colleges and universities to help deal with the financial fallout caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
At least half of the funding for each school will be distributed to students in the form of emergency assistance, according to a news release from U.S. Rep. Dan Kildee, D-Flint Township.
