SAGINAW, MI Waiting for a snowstorm to descend on her Wisconsin home on the cusp of her 85th birthday, Joy H. Zissler reflected on her legacy as the first uniformed police woman with the Saginaw Police Department.
“I loved my profession,” she said on the phone from her home in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, on the eve of her birthday of Sunday, Jan. 24. “Saginaw was my hometown and I loved it. I would do it again if I was young.”

SAGINAW, MI Police are investigating the homicide of a Saginaw man found shot to death on the city’s East Side.
The morning of Wednesday, Dec. 23, the body of 36-year-old Desrik S. Blakes was found on the side of North 21st Street. He had been shot multiple times, police said.
The prior night at about 9 p.m., residents in the area of North 21st and Chambers streets heard gunshots in the area, but no witnesses called 911, police said.
