A Sac City woman was killed Monday morning following a two-vehicle accident north of Early. According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident occurred at approximately 8:52 a.m. on U.S. Highway 71 just north of the intersection with 190
th Street. Their initial investigation revealed a 2021 Peterbilt semi-tractor trailer, driven by 40-year-old Joshua Cordes of Endis, Okla., was traveling northbound on 71 and had stopped to make a left turn into the Nutrien Early Distribution Terminal. At the same time, a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro, driven by 21-year-old Courtney Graffunder of Sac City, was also traveling northbound on 71 and failed to stop for the stopped semi. Authorities say Graffunder collided with the rear of the Cordes trailer. Graffunder sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision. The Iowa State Patrol was assisted at the scene by Sac County Emergency Medical Services and the Sac County Sheriff’s Office.

SAC CITY A Sac City woman died Monday morning after crashing into the back of a tractor trailer on Highway 71 just north of Early.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, Courtney Graffunder, 21, of Sac City, was driving northbound on Highway 71 in a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro when she failed to stop and collided with the rear of the tractor-trailer driven by Joshua Cordes, 40, of Enid, Oklahoma. Cordes had been stopped in the northbound lane waiting to turn left.
Graffunder died as a result of the collision, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Sac County Sheriff’s Office.
