Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer joined 43 California counties on May 26 in filing a civil lawsuit against the early release of 76,000 state inmates.
“It is my job as district attorney to keep Orange County safe,” Spitzer said in a press release.
“
The public must be given the opportunity to question why the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation would decide that returning murders, child molesters, and rapists back into our neighborhoods more quickly somehow constitutes an emergency.”
The lawsuit filed in Sacramento Superior Court is intended to invalidate emergency regulations by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) to release state prisoners that receive credit for good behavior.

May 25 A Sacramento County jury on Monday convicted a Sacramento man of first-degree murder for a 2018 fatal shooting during a robbery inside an Arden Arcade apartment, prosecutors said.
The jury found Maurice Vale guilty of murder of the shooting death of Trevor Solari, according to a news release from the Sacramento County District Attorney s Office. Vale, 47, also was convicted of residential robbery and being a felon in possession of a gun.
Vale s conviction included a special circumstances enhancement for committing the murder during a robbery, along with an enhancement for using a gun in the crime, prosecutors said.
Owners of three Bay Area restaurants charged with tax evasion, labor law violations

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Three people have been arraigned in connection to tax evasion and labor law violations at Japanese restaurants in San Jose, Concord and Daly City that they owned and operated.
David Tai Leung, Sunny Siukeung Chan and Wendy Lai Ip are charged with stealing more than $893,000 in wages from their employees and evading $287,697 in sales taxes and $171,820 in employment taxes.
They were arraigned last week in Sacramento Superior Court, according to a statement from California Attorney General Rob Bonta.
The three defendants were the owners, operators, and the certified public accountant of Kome Japanese Seafood Buffet in Daly City, Tomi Japanese Seafood and Grill in San Jose, and Tomi Japanese Seafood Buffet in Concord.
