Sac Board Of Supervisors Criticized On CARES Act Spending

By Sasha Margulies, iHeart Media Dec 17, 2020 The Sacramento Board of Supervisors is under fire for how it s spending the remaining coronavirus relief money. A large portion of the remaining $49.6 million of CARES Act funds will go toward health services and some will go to the Sacramento County Sheriff s Office, but critics say there are far more pressing issues in the community like rental assistance and helping small businesses struggling amid the health crisis. Vice Chair Sue Frost says the decision made is intended to make the county s budget go further. Frost assures that any CARES Act money that goes to public safety will come back to the county s general fund, so that by next year, more people can get the financial assistance they need.

Even as the coronavirus pandemic shut down much of society, deadly crime in Sacramento County spiked in 2020. These are just a few of the victims of violent crime in Sacramento County as the number of homicides increased this year, even as the COVID-19 pandemic forced various phases of shutdowns that closed schools and businesses to prevent further spread of the coronavirus.
