March 1:Â Area residents refreshed their awareness of the legacy of Camp Beale, when a grenade was found in the backyard of a Wheatland residence. The base has a history with explosives, it was reported, from when the facility was the site of the old Camp Beale, 1942 to 1947. During WWII, the camp comprised 86,000 acres 10 miles east of Marysville â it was a training facility for the U.S. Army, including bombing and gunnery range.

ACPA
The American Concrete Pavement Association (ACPA) has named 28 recipients of its 31st Annual Excellence in Concrete Pavements awards, which recognize quality concrete pavements in the United States and Canada. The awards program encourages high-quality workmanship, quality and creativity in concrete pavement construction, rehabilitation and preservation projects.
The award-winning projects were paved by 23 different contractors. Projects are located in 14 states or regions represented by 12 ACPA-affiliated chapters and state paving associations. Winners were determined by 56 professionals who devoted their time and expertise to serve as judges.
The program recognizes contractors, engineers, and project owners who completed outstanding projects. Companies noted with an asterisk ( ) are members of ACPA National.
Under the careful management of Ramsey Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Inc. in Arden-Arcade, the remains of Dewayne James Jr. and his brother Sa’Quan Reed-James were transported back to their hometown of Monroe, Louisiana, on Dec. 15.

Dr. Anthony Ramsey Wallace, president and CEO of Wallace Funeral Home, said the brothers, who only been in Sacramento for less than two years, will be buried on Friday, Dec. 18.
The funeral home received custody of the pair on Dec. 3, “And then we dressed them up and casketed them,” Wallace said.
