Virus cases decline

Barbados continues to see a decline in novel coronavirus (COVID-19) cases. Four new cases, two men and two women, were identified out of the 619 tests carried out by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory on Thursday, April 8. Three people were released from isolation, bringing the number of recoveries to 3 579.  There are 100 people in isolation. Barbados has recorded 3 708 confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic, comprising 1 797 women and 1 911 men.  There have been 44 deaths. The public health laboratory has so far conducted 145 227 tests. To date, 64 645 vaccinations have been administered – 26 662 men and 37 983 women.  (BGIS)

COVID cases pass 1600-mark

Social Share Twenty-five new cases of COVID-19 – nine males and 16 females – were identified out of the 504 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory on February 2. Seven of the new positives were people previously sent to the Harrison Point Isolation Facility in St Lucy for assessment.  A person would be sent to Harrison Point for assessment to confirm whether their PCR test result is that of a new case or an old case. Nine more people were sent for assessment. The other 18 cases include 15 Barbadians and two non-nationals. The number of confirmed cases at Her Majesty’s Prison Dodds remains at 362.  Of this total, 355 recovered and the remaining seven inmates are included in the active cases, which to date stand at 359.

Her passing brings the number of COVID-19 related deaths in Barbados to 11. The 761 tests carried out by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory on Tuesday, also identified 16 new COVID-19 positive cases, while 22 people recovered from the viral illness and were discharged from isolation. As a result, there are now 353 active cases on the island. The 16 new positives comprise 14 persons of Barbadian nationality and one of unknown nationality. One of the new cases is someone who was previously sent to the Harrison’s Point Isolation Facility for assessment. The total number of cases at Her Majesty’s Prisons Dodds remains at 361, consisting of 102 staff members and 259 male inmates.

Article by Social Share A 48-year-old woman who had an underlying illness, is the 11th person to die from COVID-19 in Barbados. The Ministry of Health and Wellness, and by extension the Government of Barbados, extend sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. It is the fourth death from the viral illness over the last nine days. The 761 tests carried out by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory on Tuesday also identified 16 new COVID-19 positive cases, while 22 people recovered from the viral illness and were discharged from isolation. As a result, there are now 353 active cases on the island.
