Pregnant women being moved to highest risk category for vaccine eligibility: source by News Staff and The Associated Press Posted Apr 22, 2021 11:10 pm EDT (iStock Photo) Pregnant women will soon be able to receive a COVID-19 vaccine as the province plans to move pregnancy from the at-risk category of health conditions to the highest risk category for vaccine eligibility, a source has confirmed to 680 NEWS. The change will be effective April 23. The majority of health units are offering vaccinations to those in the highest risk and high risk categories. A Twitter post from Chatham-Kent’s Public Health Unit also said the province had moved pregnancy to the highest risk category for health conditions identified in Phase 2 and encouraged pregnant woman to book their appointment.

February 23, 2021   Chatham-Kent’s new mass COVID vaccination clinic at the Bradley Convention Centre will be up and running today. The municipality received its third shipment of vaccine yesterday and has started the process of giving residents in long term care and high-risk retirement homes their second dose. With another shipment arriving today, Clinic Site Lead Willie Kirenko says the vaccination teams have a heavy few days ahead. “Phase 1A includes residents of long term care homes and high-risk retirement homes, among a few others. Mobile teams of EMS and public health have been going out to get those people vaccinated where they live,” Kirenko says. “At the same time though, long term care home staff and essential caregivers are also in Phase 1A, they’re the highest priority. We feel it’s best to get them vaccinated here at this site.”

January 26, 2021   There has been a big jump in the number of cases of COVID-19 at Wallaceburg’s Fairfield Park Nursing  home. On Monday, Chatham-Kent Public Health reported a total of 7 cases, by Tuesday afternoon that number had soared to 18 including 13 residents. In a statement the administrator says they are working with public health and and have taken swift action to halt the spread of the virus. That includes isolating residents. SHARE

Chatham-Kent wants Windsor Essex locals to stay away amid COVID-19 surge

(Dale Molnar/CBC) comments Leaders in Chatham-Kent want people in Windsor-Essex not to come to their municipality  at least not during the lockdown period. My friend and colleague, Dr. Wajid Ahmed, the medical officer of health there is telling everybody in Windsor to respect the lockdown and stay home, so I am echoing his message exactly, said Dr. David Colby, medical officer of health for the Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit. Windsor-Essex just went into lockdown Monday, reaching the province s strictest COVID-19 zone. Chatham-Kent is currently in the province s yellow COVID-19 category and hopes to not go into orange. Instead, they want to back to green.
