Tamarind Institute begins CABQ collaborations with local artists

February 01, 2021 The UNM Tamarind Institute is collaborating with the City of Albuquerque to create opportunities for several local artists. Five artists have been selected to create lithographs through the project: Eric Garcia, Szu-Han Ho, Gabriela Hernandez, Jane Lackey, and Zahra Marwan. The plans for this project began well before the pandemic hit. Inspired by the momentum of the City’s initiative Tipping Points for Creatives, Tamarind’s project is providing an opportunity for artists who are poised to benefit from expanding their practice to include collaborative printmaking, specifically at Tamarind Institute. For many artists, the opportunity to collaborate with Tamarind’s highly skilled printers yields new thinking about their creative practice and builds new international audiences for their work, essentially tipping local professional artists into the next phase of their career and into new markets.

Among the proposals were new housing, job opportunities and higher education centers.

2021 has to be better, right? » Albuquerque Journal

This time we really, really mean it: Happy New Year! Our first thoughts as 2020 comes to a close, of course, should be with the more than 300,000 people killed by the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States – an almost unbelievable number – and those they left behind. Our politics got so bad in 2020 that the incumbent who finished second in the presidential election has been trying to overturn the results by promoting bogus conspiracy theories – Hugo Chavez’s revenge from the grave. And, apparently, he has discussed the possibility of declaring martial law to force an election re-do in key states. Can we just bring back mudslinging as the standard means of political warfare?
