This year’s Traditional Spanish Market on the Santa Fe Plaza and surrounding streets is a go for Saturday and Sunday, July 24 and 25. There will not be a preview or awards competition this year, however. Learn more about this year’s market here.
This market was first held in Santa Fe in 1926. Rigorous standards were developed to ensure that Spanish Market artists participated in regional Hispanic heritage and they were juried into art categories that represent the established traditional arts and crafts of New Mexico and southern Colorado. Today, there are nineteen art categories with approximately 200 adult artists working within them.

SANTA FE – City leaders here have embarked on a Herculean effort to address controversial monuments immortalizing figures long derided for their brutal treatment of Native Americans.
But that reconciliation process is off to a rocky start with the city’s hiring of a consultant that some in the community accuse of “co-opting” Native identities by claiming Diné and San Ildefonso Pueblo heritage.

Santa Fe city councilors on Wednesday unanimously approved a $254,000 contract with Albuquerque-based Artful Life as the consultant for its Culture, History, Art, Reconciliation and Truth process.
