Santa Barbara man accused of killing father with a steel pipe
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - A Santa Barbara man has been arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of killing his 72-year-old father and assaulting another man.
On Thursday, July 15, Santa Barbara County Sheriff s deputies responded to a home on the 600 block of La Cumbre Road for a welfare check. The call originally came in as a check the welfare where we were asked to go and check in on what is now the decedent, and the circumstances were not immediately clear, It wasn t immediately clear that it was a homicide, so the case has been evolving, said the Sheriff s Public Information Officer Raquel Zick.

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – A San Luis Obispo man was arrested Tuesday afternoon at the Chumash Casino after he was found unconscious in the casino parking garage.
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff s Office responded to the casino around 2:45 p.m. Tuesday after receiving a report of a man unconscious with drug paraphernalia on his lap.
When deputies arrived the 27-year-old man was awake and being detained by casino security.
Deputies searched the man s vehicle and found an illegally modified high-power rifle, a handgun, loaded high-capacity magazines, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition. They also found a loaded pistol that was tucked under the driver seat of the vehicle. That pistol was found to be stolen out of Humboldt County, the sheriff s office said.

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. Santa Barbara County Sheriff s Office reports five additional employees and three inmates have tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday evening.
County Sheriff s say the employees include a Sheriff s Deputy, three Custody Deputies and a non-sworn employee.
The Sheriff s Deputy was said to have worked last on Thursday before they began to experience symptoms on Monday. They were tested and found to be positive with COVID-19 on the same day.
All three Custody Deputies tested positive on Sunday. One of the deputies last worked on Thursday and the other two last worked on Sunday.
All three were tested as part of the ongoing Sheriff s office surveillance testing.
