Isla Vista man arrested after barricading himself in home following alleged domestic violence incident

Santa Barbara County Sheriff s Office A 36-year-old Isla Vista man was arrested during an alleged domestic violence incident ISLA VISTA, Calif. – Santa Barbara County Sheriff s deputies arrested an Isla Vista man after a suspected domestic violence incident Wednesday afternoon. It happened at a home on the 6700 block of Sueno Road before 2 p.m. According to Santa Barbara County Sheriff s Public Information Officer Raquel Zick, deputies responded and attempted to make contact with a 36-year-old Isla Vista man. After the man refused to come out of the residence, sheriff s dogs and a SWAT team responded. The man ultimately surrendered and was taken into custody, Zick said.

Firefighters contain fire at homeless encampment near Goleta Beach

Tracy Lehr/KEYT Firefighters responded to a fire burning near Goleta Beach SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. – Santa Barbara County Firefighters responded to a fire at a homeless encampment Tuesday evening. The fire was first reported around 6 p.m. near Highway 217 and Sandspit Road in Goleta by Goleta Beach. The Santa Barbara County Fire Department responded and found a small fire burning near the bike path that was producing a significant amount of smoke. Firefighters were able to stop forward progress of the fire after it burned about a quarter-acre. Fire crews were expected to remain on scene for several hours Tuesday night to continue mop-up operations.

Law enforcement investigating string of South Coast break-ins

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - A streak of burglaries took place in the Santa Barbara area early Monday morning. South Coast Deli and Choi’s Oriental Market on Patterson Avenue in Goleta had their front doors shattered in. The deli had its cash drawer and safe stolen. Jim St. John is the owner of South Coast Deli. “The alarm company called us right away, called sheriffs right away, and we hustled over here and found the place with the glass broken into the door and they took one cash drawer and they took our safe,” St. John said. St. John said the only thing the business could do was clean up the mess and get ready for the workday.
