‘The Knot’ becomes first Indian film at SBIFF in five years
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Helping to put the international in Santa Barbara International Film Festival is The Knot. Written and directed by first time filmmaker Ashish Pant, The Knot pulls from his real life and family experiences in India.
Pant joined FOX11 Monday morning to discuss the film and what it s like being part of SBIFF.
In this suspenseful drama, Shirish and Geeta, an upper middle class Indian couple, accidently run over someone. Their differing reactions to the consequences of the accident reveal fissures in their relationship and put their values and beliefs to the test.

Located just over 200 miles from the shores of Santa Barbara, Coachella Valley is best known for its namesake festival that attracts hundreds of thousands of music fans every year. Underneath the glamorous exterior created by the posts of vacationing celebrities and Instagram influencers, however, lies a different reality: the one populated by the undocumented, migrant farmworkers who toil the valleyâs fields for little pay and poor living conditions.

Itâs this hidden reality that director Aaron Maurer aims to explore in his documentary âInvisible Valley.â Premiering on opening night of this yearâs Santa Barbara International Film Festival (SBIFF), the film follows the lives of those in the Coachella Valley over the course of four seasons, from the farmworkers toiling in the fields to the revelers at the Coachella music festival.
