Sanibel Sea School announces new after-school programming By SANIBEL SEA SCHOOL - | Dec 16, 2020 PHOTO PROVIDED The Sanibel Sea School is excited to introduce After School Canoeing to its 2021 lineup. The Sanibel Sea School is excited to introduce After School Canoeing to its 2021 lineup. The Sanibel Sea School will offer a variety after-school programs this winter and spring. The next lineup of programs will begin in mid-January and continue through May. Sessions will be held on Tuesdays from 3:30 to 5:30 and include beachcombing, surfing, ocean art and canoeing. The sessions are $20 per student. Registration is open at https://www.sanibelseaschool.org/afterschool.

Business Notes TRUSTEES ELECTED AT SCCF MEMBERSHIP MEETING Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation members voted to appoint three new individuals to the board of trustees Jill McCormack, Anne Nobles and John Raho at the Annual Membership Meeting on Dec. 8. Board President Linda Uhler, Treasurer Susan Beittel, Nominating Committee Chair Doug Ryckman and SCCF Chief Executive Officer Ryan Orgera spoke at the 30-minute meeting held via Zoom. Outgoing members of the board were recognized for their service, including Shelley Greggs, Robin Krivanek and Uhler. The following new officers were also announced: President Don Rice, Vice President Deborah LaGorce, Treasurer Susan Beittel and Secretary Ran Niehoff.

San-Cap Shell Club awards grant to SCCF By SHELL CLUB - | Dec 11, 2020 PHOTO PROVIDED PHOTO PROVIDED Since 2009, the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation has restored four acres of oyster reef habitat in the waters surrounding Sanibel and Captiva. It applied for a grant from the Sanibel-Captiva Shell Club this year to further the project. The club’s board recently approved the grant for $2,000 to provide support for the collection of monthly spat data oyster larvae that becomes permanently attached on appropriate habitat to grow and the annual live oyster “density and size” sampling in the San Carlos Bay and Tarpon Bay, which takes place in February.
