Local group sets goal to create Hispanic heritage museum in San Angelo Suzanna Valenzuela View Comments San Angelo has a proud and rich Hispanic heritage that has gone unrecognized for many years. That is all changing due to the efforts of the San Angelo Hispanic Heritage Museum and Cultural Center group, which was established in December 2019. Despite not having a physical building, the group is bringing awareness to the contributions, traditions and culture of the Hispanic community.  The initiative began when the committee created the San Angelo Hispanic Heritage Museum and Cultural Center Facebook page in 2019, highlighting Hispanic contributions made to the city of San Angelo. This was followed by a proclamation for Hispanic Heritage Month at City Council, an event on the steps of City Hall for Diez y Seis de Septiembre, and a successful virtual Día de los Muertos event. Due to the overwhelming support of these efforts, the group set a goal to have a building that w

2021 San Angelo Ceramic Invitational set to begin SAN ANGELO The 2021 San Angelo Ceramic Invitational will begin Thursday with a schedule of events that runs through the weekend. Artwork will be on display at the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, 1 Love St., from April 23-June 27. Laura Huckaby, assistant director at SAMFA, said they are excited to put on an event this year after it had to be held online in 2020. There are still a few modifications in place for people s safety, Huckaby said.  Masks are required indoors, but we have more things happening outside than indoors. Artists in this year s show will include Ariel Bowman, Brooks Oliver and Gregory Tegarden.

Sep 12, 1946 Feb 26, 2021 W. Hampton Beesley III died peacefully from cancer on Thursday, February 25 at his home in San Angelo, Texas attended by his dogs, children, and wife Bonnie of 52 years. Over his 74 years Hamp nurtured a loving family, helped people of all walks of life through his law practice, supported jazz music and the Arts, traveled the world, and became an admired and beloved community member.  Born in Austin, TX in 1946, he and his family soon moved to San Angelo where Hamp would live out the rest of his days. He became an Eagle Scout, and at age 15 drove a delivery truck for his father’s business, West Texas Frozen Foods. Hamp graduated from Central High School in 1964 and from University of Texas in 1968, with a B.B.A. in accounting. At UT he met his future wife, Bonnie, on a substitute blind date. Hamp served in the Army Reserves from 1968 to 1974 and graduated from University of Texas Law School at Austin in 1972. He then returned to his hometown where
