STOCKTON – Jason-Alec Soto was among the first to receive the Pfizer BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine on Tuesday afternoon at Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Medical Center. The Modesto resident born and raised in Stockton said he was trepidatious initially but decided to go ahead to help protect himself and his family from the coronavirus. “For me the importance of getting this is my mom is a high-risk person,” said Soto, who works in admitting at the hospital. “From what I’ve been told, this is good for people that are high risk. I just want to make sure my mom is safe, so for me it was important to get it for her.”

San Joaquin County bringing the rest of the region down in ICU bed capacity San Joaquin County is one of five counties in the region with 0% intensive care unit capacity. The San Joaquin Valley region officially fell below the state s 15% ICU capacity threshold on Friday when it dipped to 14.1%, triggering new restrictions on businesses and activities throughout the region that went into effect Sunday. Of the eleven counties in the region, San Joaquin, Fresno, Kings, Madera and San Benito all have 0% ICU capacity, according to state metrics. Tuolumne and Calaveras counties have the highest capacity with each at 50%. We re bringing the rest of the region down, unfortunately, San Joaquin County Public Health Officer Maggie Park said at the county s Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday morning.
