Residents of Visalia and the San Joaquin Valley felt an earthquake Thursday afternoon, but where did it come from?  Initial reports were that just before 4 p.m. northern and central California felt a 4.8 earthquake centered about 10 miles from Stockton near Farmington. But the United States Geological Society later explained that what was felt was a 5.9 earthquake centered the California-Nevada border, about 160 miles away.  © Visalia Times-Delta/Tulare Advance-Register archive Breaking news The mistaken mapping of an earthquake in Farmington was a “technical thing” where automatic graphing marked an epicenter near Stockton, Office of Emergency Services director Shellie Lima said.
