NEW YORK: Phil Spector, one of the most influential and successful record producers in rock ’n’ roll, who generated a string of hits in the early 1960s defined by the lavish instrumental treatment known as the wall of sound, but who was sentenced to prison for the murder of a woman at his home, died on Saturday. He was 81. The cause was complications of Covid-19, his daughter, Nicole Audrey Spector, said. He was hospitalisedtaken to San Joaquin General Hospital in French Camp, California, on December 31 and intubated in January, she said.
Phil Spector, the imprisoned music legend, spent his last days suffering with Covid.

Covid-19 has taken the life of Phil Spector, one of the most influential and successful record producers in rock ’n’ roll, who spent the last chapter of his life in prison for murder.
Ms. Spector said she visited her father the day before his death at San Joaquin General Hospital, near Modesto, Calif. He was not conscious and “appeared to be suffering,” she said.
San Joaquin County hit a grim milestone the first week of January as intensive care unit demand reached an all-time high of 175% in the county’s seven hospitals.
“I cannot say thank you enough to the staff of the county’s seven acute care hospitals for their skill and dedication in caring for patients during the pandemic especially for the 106 COVID positive patients requiring intensive care services,” said Dan Burch, EMS administrator, said Monday. “The 106 patients requiring ICU care to battle COVID alone exceeds the county’s 99 licensed ICU beds. The impact of COVID-19 on the members of our community and our healthcare system is glaring.”
