Nearly 20 school board trustees from across the South Bay are demanding San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo stop politicizing school re-openings.
The trustees penned a letter, signed by leaders across nine school districts, criticizing Liccardo’s new advocacy group, Solutions San Jose, which launched a campaign with a petition to quickly reopen schools in the 19 districts across San Jose.
School trustees say Liccardo is being disingenuous when he claims to want to reopen schools in the name of social justice.

San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo’s efforts through his new advocacy organization to reopen San Jose schools is sparking frustration for some particularly communities of color.
Liccardo launched a petition through Solutions San Jose sending two emails within 24 hours to gather signatures demanding COVID-19 vaccines be prioritized for teachers and to reopen elementary schools. Liccardo said the continual closure of schools has created a “separate and unequal” education system unfairly hurting low-income families.
Bay Area teens among first girls to achieve Eagle Scout rank

SARATOGA, Calif. (KTVU) - Dozens of Bay Area girls are making history as the first female Eagle Scouts.
They are the first to achieve the designation since the Boy Scouts of America changed the program to allow girls to participate two years ago. I think it s fantastic. I ve been looking for this equality is scouting for many years, said Bruce Lee, who leads Troop 2394 in Santa Clara.
Lee said the program came too late for his own two daughters, but he s proud two of his troop members are part of the inaugural group including Emerson Domke of Mountain View.
