Benicia Unified School District had 303 third grade students during 2018-2019 school year, according to the California Department of Education. Los Angeles Unified School District had the highest number of third grade students enrolled in California with 45,857.
According to numbers provided by the National Center for Education Services, California is expected to see a decrease of three percent in public elementary and secondary school enrollment from 2017-2029. The state expected to see the largest drop in enrollment is New Mexico with a projected 12 percent decrease, while Washington D.C. is projected to see a 14 percent increase over the same time period.
Thereâs a movement in public schools across the country from Maine to California purporting to improve race relations. To this retired teacher, however, itâs more likely to make them worse.
A week ago, the Washington Free Beacon reported: âThe San Diego Unified School District required teachers to attend a âwhite privilegeâ training session in which they had to say they were racist and âconfrontâ their privilege.â
Itâs not just in California that teachers are being instructed like this. Similar things are happening right here in Maine. âDiversity Trainersâ across the country are collecting enormous fees for telling teachers theyâre racist and, âYou are upholding racist ideas, structures and policies.â

The San Diego Unified School District has started voluntary coronavirus testing for students and staff at several elementary
schools under a partnership with UC San Diego Health, according to an announcement Dec. 15.
Eventually, the testing program could be expanded to include all 100,000 students in the district and its more than 10,000 staff members.
Free tests for the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 will be available to students and staff members at 10 campuses this week Rolando Park, Penn, Foster, Gage, Mason, Vista Grande, Dingeman, Jerabek, Hearst and Benchley Weinberger elementary schools with additional testing to be offered Jan. 4-15.
The data compares grades during online learning from the beginning of this school year through Thanksgiving to grades during the same period last year when students were in school, face-to-face with their teachers. The number of students earning A, B and C grades while doing distance learning is up 6%, according to the district. There were fewer D and F grades during online learning, too.
“There was no late work so you could turn in any assignment at any time and I know that was a big thing for a lot of my friends,” said Nicolas Gardinera who is a senior in high school in the district. He and his brother Noah are not thrilled about online learning. They say they ve received good grades, but did not really learn anything.
