Parks & Beaches board seeks barrier extension at Scripps Park belvedere
The La Jolla Parks & Beaches board last week unanimously approved drafting a letter to send to the city of San Diego asking that it extend the fence around one of the belvederes at Scripps Park.
“There is a 3-foot-wide opening on either side of the belvedere that leads people down to the bluff,” said trustee Melinda Merryweather. “What happens is … through the years of people pounding down on either side of that belvedere, it has worn the sand and dirt down. Then people get in front of the belvedere to take pictures of people in the belvedere. It’s a huge safety issue.”

Being a musician is much more than playing an instrument. Choosing the right instrument and making music can be a life-changing experience. Being a musician is more than a talent, or a hobby; it’s building the skills needed to be the player and make the music you want.
Rob Thorsen is a dedicated and experienced instrumentalist, confident in his musical abilities and vision, who has been performing for more than 40 years. His bass croons with a warmth while weaving creative instrumental textures.
Thorsen is also familiar with other instrumental sounds. He played baritone ukulele at age 6, classical guitar at 8, then flute, saxophone and tuba. He acquired his first electric bass at a garage sale at age 19 in San Francisco and fell in love with the instrument.

On Monday, parents of kiddos in the San Diego Unified School District received an email.
The superintendent let them know of new resources coming into the system.
Per the message, nonprofit Gender Nation would be donating 2,000 “age-appropriate LGBTQ+ inclusive” books.
As reported by The Daily Wire, the missive explained that, in an effort to “empower students through inclusive stories,” the district would “now have access to more literature specifically geared towards LGBTQ+ students.”
We help communities empower and validate children with LGBTQ+ storytelling.
Libraries are sanctuaries, but they often don’t have the resources they need to serve all children equally. We started Gender Nation to help provide school libraries with LGBTQ+ affirming literature. Our supporters make this possible by helping to curate, purchase, and distribute books at no cost to those we serve.
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – After a year of struggling to translate hands-on fields such as art, music, theater, dance, and visual art, many teachers and students in the San Diego Unified School District are elated to be back learning with one another in-person.
Russ Sperling, Director at the Visual and Performing Arts Department at SDUSD, joined KUSI’s Logan Byrnes on Good Evening San Diego to give an update on how the department is doing.
For example, Sperling said, theater students have had to be inventive, learning to create a new piece of theater on Zoom, then premiering it “drive-in movie” style in a parking lot.
