SAN DIEGO (KGTV) â The artist of a mural at a Barrio Logan school that was destroyed during a construction project is suing San Diego Unified School District, saying the work could have been preserved.
In a lawsuit filed this week, artist Salvador Roberto Torres alleged that he only found out the district planned to destroy the mural he created at Memorial Junior High School as part of ongoing improvements to the campus not long before it was removed on Sept. 23, 2020.

More and more schools in San Diego County are slowly expected to reopen soon after nearly a year of closures due to the pandemic and the latest districts to update their plans are Encinitas Union School District (EUSD) and La Mesa-Spring Valley School District (LMSVSD).
In a letter to parents sent on Tuesday, Encinitas Union announced K-6 grade students will have will expand from two days of in-person learning per week to five starting April 12, just after students’ spring break. Those students’ in-person schedule will be 8 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., Monday through Friday.
For some parents, the decision is easier to make than for others. I don’t think it’s soon enough,” said Rebecca, a parent who did not want to give her last name, referring to the targeted reopening date of April 12. She said she was hoping schools would reopen the first week of March.
Felipe Preciado, who has two children in the district said, “It’s a perfect time, obviously with vaccinations going around, it’s pretty good.”
He said he will send his children back to school for in-person learning.
Parent Adriana Rodriguez said for it is too scary to reopen schools now. She will keep her children home for more virtual learning this school year.
