SDCCU invites kids and teens to participate in the National Credit Union Foundation “Biz Kid$ Showcase” Students ages 12-18 can enter to win cash prizes at state and national levels! SAN DIEGO, CA (April 6, 2021) ® ), one of Southern California’s largest locally-owned financial institutions, is participating in the National Credit Union Foundation Biz Kid$ Showcase. The Biz Kid$ Showcase competition has been built to attract and engage young community members, raise credit union awareness and allow students to continue to be creative in our current virtual world. Beginning at the state level, students, ages 12 – 18 years old, will participate in three learning modules, each focused on a different aspect of business planning. After completing each module, students will work, either as individuals or teams, to create a business plan. Business plans will be judged by a panel of credit union experts from each state. Santa Sophia Academy student aces county spelling bee

Christian Antonio, a seventh-grader at Santa Sophia Academy in Spring Valley, claimed the champion title in the 51st annual San Diego Union-Tribune Countywide Spelling Bee Wednesday. He won the event after 13 rounds, triumphing with the correct spelling of the word huipil a traditional Oaxacan garment. “I want to say thank you,” he said, as his parents joined him onscreen after the competition. “And I want to thank my family for supporting me, and my school, Santa Sophia. I’m glad my hard work paid off. Javier Guerrero (Courtesy photo) Javier Guerrero, president and CEO of Coastal Roots Farm, recently received the 2021 Fran Aleshire Leadership Award during Cal State San Marcos’ annual Report to the Community. The Leadership North County Alumni Network presents the award each year to a graduate of the program who shows great leadership, in the spirit of community leader Fran Aleshire. Individuals are nominated by their peers. Coastal Roots Farm, 441 Saxony Road, is a nonprofit Jewish community farm and education center, and Guerrero has built a team focused on equitable educational programming for community youths from disadvantaged schools and other schools. He introduced internships and after-school programs, and oversaw a 35 percent increase in food production to distribute annually to more than 30,000 residents in need. Guerrero was appointed president and CEO of Coastal Roots Farm in November. Before that, he was the organization’s executive director for 21/2 years. Visit
