SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego City Council Tuesday voted to accept $22.7 million in Trade Corridor Enhancement Program grant funding from the California Transportation Commission for the La Media Road Improvements Project in Otay Mesa.
The project consists of widening La Media Road from State Route 905 to the U.S.-Mexico border, critical for southbound truck traffic heading to the Otay Mesa Port of Entry. The project is also intended to improve drainage at the intersection of La Media Road and Airway Road.
SAN DIEGO
In the wake of a new study that found deep racial disparities in San Diego police data, community members on Tuesday urged the city to adopt reforms that would limit when and how officers conduct stops and searches practices that disproportionately impact communities of color.
The findings, which showed that people of color especially Black people are stopped, searched and subjected to force more often than their White counterparts, were shared with the City Council during a virtual meeting.
About two dozen speakers said that the study is the latest to show what they already knew: Communities of color in San Diego experience biased-based policing, as well as over-policing.
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Transportation leaders and transit advocates from around the region gathered Tuesday to witness the first trolley on the Mid-Coast Extension of the UC San Diego Blue Line.
The milestone signifies that train testing is beginning and that the San Diego Association of Governments is officially transferring responsibility to the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System for operations.
“This is an important day,” said Nathan Fletcher, MTS board chair and San Diego County supervisor. “We get the keys to Mid-Coast and it’s all- systems-go for testing our trolleys on the tracks.
“The public will see more and more of San Diego’s famous red trolleys testing on these tracks over the next several months,” he continued. “MTS will be working hard to train staff to get ready for the November launch.”
