Hitler film clip circulated among San Diego police leads to internal investigation [The San Diego Union-Tribune]
The San Diego Police Department is investigating a video depicting Adolf Hitler that circulated among some department members. The video “negatively portrays the community and department leadership” and includes a homophobic comment about the city’s new mayor, Todd Gloria, a police spokesman confirmed.
Gloria, who took office Dec. 10, is the city’s first openly gay mayor.
Police spokesman Lt. Shawn Takeuchi called the video “extremely disturbing and offensive.”
“The department will not tolerate hateful speech of any kind,” he said. “If the video was created by a department member, Chief (David) Nisleit will take swift action. This is not who we are as a department. This is not who we are as San Diegans.”

Column: The myth of the San Diego City Council’s Democratic majority [The San Diego Union-Tribune]
There appeared to be a moment of optimism for San Diego city government last week as Mayor Todd Gloria and five new council members were sworn in to office.
They talked about rising out of these difficult times and coming together to move San Diego forward with vision.
But appearances can be deceiving.
The relative comity of the remote ceremony was bracketed by a tense, weeks-long campaign for City Council president beforehand and by an explosive council meeting later that day to determine who would win the job Dr. Jennifer Campbell or Monica Montgomery Steppe, both Democrats.

San Diego Miramar College’s business programs have been granted national accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). This is the first and only two-year business department in the San Diego region to become nationally accredited by ACBSP, according to the college.
To achieve the accreditation, the faculty at Miramar College conducted a self-study of the programs, processes and procedures which develop and deliver business education to students enrolled in the program. The evaluation included measurable evidence of how the business program meets the six national standards for quality in business education. At the conclusion of the self-study, peer evaluators from other two-year accredited business schools in the nation conducted a site visit to evaluate the program.
