The San Dieguito Faculty Association (SDFA) announced that it has launched a petition asking the San Dieguito Union High School District (SDUHSD) to hold a special election to fill a seat left vacant after Area 5 trustee Kristin Gibson’s resignation.
In a press release, the SDFA stated that it wants due process and constituent voices to be heard in the selection of a new school board member.

“We believe that voting is an important part of the democratic process,” said Duncan Brown, president of the SDFA in a news release. “People serving on the governing body of our district should be elected in a way that reflects the wishes of the constituents of Area 5, to ensure that their interests are fairly represented during any school district decision-making process.”

CARLSBAD
The Carlsbad City Council met in special session Tuesday to discuss the city’s economic and financial update for the third quarter of the fiscal year 2021. The council heard a report and discussed ways to address the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Staff was asked to bring back information on supporting nonprofits. The council also discussed how to use the excess general fund reserve. The council voted to allocate $10 million to pay down pension liability to the California Public Employees Retirement System, and also transfer $3.5 million to the Infrastructure Replacement Fund. The council also allocated $8.3 million to pay for some of its 2021-22 goals, which include reducing the homeless population by 50 percent within five years.
Lynch had two sons that attended schools in the SDUHSD and she volunteered at their schools, Oak Crest Middle School and La Costa Canyon High School, throughout their attendance. The district called her a dedicated education advocate.
The decision comes days after former Superintendent Robert Haley resigned from his position. Friday marked his last day. His contract was set to expire June 1.
NBC 7 was told the reason for Haley s departure is not related to anything illegal or improper.
Haley is being compensated on his way out the door the district said he would receive a year s salary and that the district will maintain his health and welfare benefits until April 30, 2022, or until he obtains benefit coverage elsewhere, whichever occurs first.
