Photo: Keith Crook SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco s Board of Supervisors will decide on Tuesday whether to allow a Ferris wheel at Golden Gate Park s Music Concourse to stay for another year instead of the four-year extension proposed by the city s Historic Preservation Commission. The Board of Supervisors will consider the resolution after the supervisors Rules Committee voted unanimously on Monday to bring it to the full board for a vote. Earlier this month, the San Francisco Historic Preservation Commission approved extending the stay of the 150-foot-tall SkyStar Observation Wheel through 2025, in order to reinvigorate the city s post-pandemic economy and help offset SkyStar s financial loss.

SAN FRANCISCO (KTVU) - San Francisco s City Attorney Dennis Herrera announced a lawsuit and $100 million settlement with Recology, the city s recycling and trash collection company. The suit alleges Recology s cozy relationship with the former head of San Francisco s Department of Public Works, Mohammed Nuru allowed the company to overcharge customers following a rate increase in 2017. Under the agreement Recology will pay customers back $95 million and has agreed to a $7 million settlement with the city of San Francisco. City Attorney Herrera said the average customer will be getting back approximately $190 for the overbilling.

City Contractor Florence Kong Becomes First to Be Sentenced In Federal Corruption Probe Florence Kong, the owner of a construction firm as well as a debris recycling company that did business with San Francisco s Department of Public Works under former director Mohammed Nuru, today became the first figure to be sentenced in the ranging federal corruption investigation that first became public in early 2020. Kong, 63, was one of two city contractors to take plea deals last October, and on Thursday she was sentenced by U.S. District Judge William Orrick in an emotional hearing in which she reportedly apologized profusely. As the Mercury News reports, Kong was sentenced to one year in federal prison, which she will likely serve at the women s facility in Dublin where celebrities Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman recently served time in the Operation Varsity Blues scandal.
