If you add up the city s batch of vaccines with those from private providers, only half of the 200,000 people in the state s Tier 1A will have been vaccinated. All of those people need two shots, so to even deal with the 1A tier, we need about 400,000 vaccines, so we re nowhere near close to where we need to be, said Mayor London Breed.

SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco s first mass-vaccination site is now open. The first of 500 people with appointments at the site received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine on Friday and described a sense of happiness and relief. I am feeling wonderful, this is fabulous, said San Francisco resident Jim Stephens, who signed up for one of the first appointments at the site, at 8:30 a.m. There s real hope. We ve ended a period of darkness, and we re moving into a period of light.
Another 10,000 doses will be available next week in San Francisco.
The City College site opened at 8 a.m.

Vaccinations will be happening all weekend at San Francisco City College, but on an appointment-only basis. All the appointments have already been booked.
Right now health care workers, people in long term care facilities and those 65 and over are in the top tier for vaccinations.
But there is talk in Sacramento about making age a priority over other sectors like education and emergency services.
