San Francisco and Cork, Ireland officials will raise twinned versions of the Progress pride flag at their city halls this Sunday, May 16, in observance of an international day that raises awareness about LGBTQ issues. For the sister cities since 1984, it is the first time that version of the Pride flag will fly at their city halls.
And it is also the first time either municipality has worked in tandem with another city to simultaneously raise the LGBTQ symbol at its city hall. The flag-raisings will take place prior to the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, which is observed May 17 in scores of countries around the globe.

Expanding on what officials called a promising start to San Francisco’s new police-free mental health crisis teams, Mayor London Breed is proposing a sister division that would respond to lower-level “wellness” calls that traditionally have been handled by armed officers.
The street wellness response teams would represent the latest in the city’s efforts to dial back police presence from calls for service that don’t involve criminal activity particularly those involving mental health and homelessness.
It was that report that prompted Grant’s family to ask O’Malley to reopen the case.

A coalition is moving forward with a campaign to recall Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O’Malley even though she has decided not to seek re-election.
O’Malley announced on May 18 that she will not seek a fourth term in 2023.
The Justice 4 Oscar Grant Coalition is moving ahead with the recall campaign following O’ Malley’s decision not to prosecute BART police Officer Anthony Pirone for his part in the shooting death of Oscar Grant III. Grant died after BART police Officer Johannes Mehserle shot him early on New Year’s Day 2009 at the Fruitvale BART station in Oakland.
